About Collective Harminy

We are a not for profit community collaborative in the greater Andover area who have joined together to share the gift of music. We do this by:

Providing musical experiences for seniors in assisted living communities performed by local music students;
Providing local music students the opportunity to gain valuable performance experience;
Promoting intergenerational community connections through live music; and
Increasing awareness and support for the critical role that music plays throughout all stages of life.

Who

Local music schools, students and care facilities who seek to:

Connect seniors and youth through live music performed by local students on site;

Deliver the benefits of music and community connection to seniors;

Support music schools by providing developmental opportunities and enrichment for students;

Support senior care facilities through activity engagement of residents.

What

We visit senior care facilities and

performe live music for residents throughout the school year!

For older adults who have age-related cognitive impairment, music has the power to bring back memories and slow further decline. Plus, it simply makes people HAPPY!

Not only do these performances provide a therapeutic benefit to seniors, but they also promote intergenerational community connections and offer live playing experiences for students to a very warm and welcoming audience!

Why

All too often, socialization for seniors is limited to other residents, staff, and occasional visits from family.

Intergenerational experiences with young people can add to a resident's quality of life by sharing joy and community connection while providing a sense of belonging.

In addition, interaction through music stimulates memories and also helps to combat loneliness and depression.

Intergenerational programs like Collective Harminy lets students

bring their talents to seniors, and feel good knowing they are a valued and appreciated member of society!
